E-Newsletters & E-Marketing for your business!
Why is E-Mail Marketing so important?
Your current clients are your hottest source for your
own prospective new business! They are loyal, want to
know what's going on, and want those special offers!
Think of it this way: each person that signs up for
your e-newsletter on your website is telling you that
they essentially want to become part of your family!
Give them what they want, keep them informed, and get
that residual business!
Why can't I send this out myself using Outlook?
There are many reasons why this is troublesome. One
of the HUGEST reasons you should use
a third party system (we use Vertical Response) to send
out your e-newsletters is because your domain name (www.yourname.com)
can get BLACKLISTED in
a heart beat!
Each time someone from MSN or YAHOO mail marks you as
"SPAM" from their inbox, this puts points
towards your domain and eventually you will not be able
to EVEN SEND EMAIL TO MSN or YAHOO etc. email recipients.
Why is this such a problem? Because it is almost impossible
to get it whitelisted after it's blacklisted. You have
essentially made yourself a SPAM domain name and email
programs are told to ignore you.
Another reason you won't want to send out e-newsletters
from your own program in house is because your ISP will
ONLY ALLOW so many emails to go out at one time. This
means if your list is over 50 - your email will be hosed
up for hours if not all day. Each ISP is different and
some even have limits per day. You will not handle unsubscribes
automatically and you will not see any tracking data.
Overall, it is RISKY to
send out your own E-newsletters from YOUR own
Email account instead of using a 3rd party program.
YES! You CAN do it yourself! So what Programs
do you recommend and use yourself?
Some of the best programs we've found for Do-it-Yourselfer's
& have used ourselves include:
- Contact
Contact which includes a free trial:
Email
Newsletters - 60 Day Free Trial
- Great for small lists of subscribers.
- VerticalResponse
which we've found for larger # of subscribers is EXTREMELY
affordable compared to others.
How often should I send it out?
Rule of thumb is to start by sending it out monthly.
You can't wait too long because the recipients will
not remember they asked for it and unsubscribe. On the
other hand, you can't send it too often where it becomes
an annoyance and AGAIN brings in massive unsubscribes.
You have just defeated your purpose!
Each business is different and each clientele can handle
so much. Start out monthly and keep it up a minimum
of every 3 months. The day of the week for each market
is also something to consider. Business to business
is usually best Tuesday or Thursday. Retail can vary
depending on your audience.
